The Prime Minister's meetings with political leaders triggered reactions. At the focus of discussion was the issue of consensus for the tackling of the consequences of the crisis. After the meetings held between the prime minister and political leaders governmental members stated that the government submitted a proposal with seriousness and asked for consensus from all political parties. LAOS president Mr. Karatzaferis repeated his proposal per the creation of an ecumenical government. SEV president estimated that the financial crisis will lead to pre mature elections.

The government submitted its programme and plan with seriousness, realism discretion as the majority of the Greek people has asked fro, minister of health Dimirtris Avramopoulos said from Thessaloniki where he delivered a speech and added "co operate so as to minimize the outmost the consequences of the financial crisis".

Papandreou charged that the ND government has failed miserably and added that the country needs a change of course.

The PASOK leader accused the prime minister of passing off his government's blame to the opposition, and charged that the government has no plan for the country's salvation but rather he was planning only for its own salvation and with that, the salvation of the interests it wishes to serve.

After the meeting with the Prime Minister (KKE) leader Aleka Papariga said the prime minister referred to specific points he supports and gave her a relevant text, which according to Papariga, does not meet with KKE's approval.

She also added that her party does not fear an election, which is a major opportunity to dent the "negative power correlation and to punish both poles of bipartisanism," as she said.

The KKE leader also said that her party will not back an "anti-social policy" and measures against the working class.

In a press conference, Karatzaferis stated that "this is the biggest economic crisis experienced globally".

LAOS president estimated that Mr. Karamanlis will not proceed to pre mature elections and asked from all parties to be clear regarding the issue of the election of President of Republic.

    [02] 15 Years without Melina

    News

Melina lost the battle with cancer 15 years ago. "Melina" foundation initiated a memorial ceremony that took place today in Athens first cemetery. PASOK president Giorgos Papandreou as well as top socialist party members attended the ceremony.

15 years ago the news about her death was spread around the world, from Memorial hospital in New York, the Atlantic Ocean and Europe to her home Greece. Melina Merkouri is no longer among us as she would want to be.

Melina was worshiped by many people by her first name. She was not an actor, not a politician. She wasn't only that. She was and she still is the Greek symbol, the only one that was buried under state leaders' honors.

Her most unforgettable moment was in the movie "Never on Sunday" where she sang probably the most well known song abroad "The Children of Piraeus". Melina Merkouri loved Greece like nothing else. Even when colonels of the military junta forbid her to be Greek citizen, she answered: "I was born in Greece and I will die in Greece".

Today, PASOK being extremely moved, stood in front of Melina's grave and left some roses. Then, he stood in from his father as well as his grandfather's graves Andreas and Giorgos Papandreou graves.
