Mr Negroponte will hold talks with Iraqi officials on the progress made in politics, economy and safety. There is no information available on the programme of his meetings. However, the visit is taking place during a period when Baghad and Washington are negotiating a deal for the American presence in Iraq after 2008. The so-called SOFA will decide on the future status of US troops after the end of 2008. Both sides still disagree on the US marine asylum in Iraq and the command of military operations.
