    Personal Data Protection Authority

    Hristos Geraris, president of the Personal Data Protection Authority and honorary president of the State Council presented the authoritys annual report for 2007 to the Speaker of the House, Dimitris Sioufas today. According to Mr. Geraris the Authority issued 65 decisions, responded to 980 questions last year while another 3.000 cases are pending. He also underlined that the Authority is facing more serious operation problems compared to last years due to inefficient number of employees and lack of rank and salary level motivations to attract and keep scientific personnel in order to meet increased demands.

    Batopedi Monastery Account Frozen

    The Authority for the combat of money laundering has frozen Batopedi Monasteri 41 million account, sum from improper property transactions. Journalist Kostas Baxevanis was called to testify as a witness on the Batopedi case on Monday. In the meantime, the Archaeologists Union underlined that 8.000 square meters of the land in Ouranopolis that belong to Batopedi Monasteri has been declared archaeological area since 1965. PASOK spokesman George Papakonstantinou said that the Batopedi file should be brought to the Parliament and the government should submit a regulation to ensure the states interests, otherwise PASOK will do it.

    Greek Foreign Minister, Dora Bakoyianni is in NY to attend and address the 63rd UN General Assembly. She will have a number of contacts in NY focusing on Greeces assumption of the rotating presidency in 2009 of Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, FYROM name issue and the Cyprus question. She also signed a memorandum with the African Union on 3 million financing for adoption to global warming activities with a 4-year horizon. Mrs. Bakoyianni will meet with Cyprus president, Dimitri Hristofia on Tuesday and the UN special envoy Mathew Nimitz on Wednesday.
