    The bill regarding taxation will be discussed by the competent Committee of Parliament on Tuesday. Governmental members consider the new measures necessary due to the financial crisis the country is facing and underline that pensioners and employees will not be affected.

    The New Measures

    In his interview, Minister of Finance and Economy stressed that he is looking into 2009 new measures regarding fighting tax evasion. The National Council of Tax evasion will take the final decisions. Mr. Alogoskoufis brands the road for the fight of tax evasion a long one and among other things stresses: "The most serious proposal that will be submitted to the National Council of Tax Evasion will provide for a basic list of expenses for all ratepayers.

    According to the new measures:

    -A 1000 income equals to 155 euros taxation -A 3000 euros income equals to 465 euros taxation -A 7000 euros income to 1085 -A 10.000 income to 1550.

    Families with children whose income rises to 1.000 euros for one child, 2.000 euros for two and 10.000 for three children will be entitled to tax exemption

    The new measures will benefit employees and pensioners. An employee with two children and a 18.000 yearly income will pay taxation of 1.250 euros. A pensioners 14.000 euros income equates to 640 euros taxation gaining 51 euros.

    According to Kappa Research gallop conducted for "Vima tis Kyriakis" newspaper, New Democracy preserves a 1,2 lead against the opposition party. The gallop also records record a major drop for SYN that reaches 3,5%.

    More specifically, ND is on the lead gathering 29.3%, PASOK 28.1%, KKE 7,6%, SYRIZA 11,7% and LAOS 5%. Kostas Karamanlis was voted most suitable for Prime Minister (44,8%) while Giorgos Papandreou follows gathering 29% of votes.

    Dissatisfaction for the governments work reaches 80,4% and 88,4% for the opposition party. 71.4% of people asked says "no" to a possible co operation between PASOK and ND and 39,8% agree with a co operation between PASOK-SYRIZA.

    'friendship pact' under which Italy will pay billions of dollars in compensation for abuses committed during its colonial rule of the North African country

    Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi arrived in Libya on Saturday to sign a "friendship pact" under which Italy will pay billions of dollars in compensation for abuses committed during its colonial rule of the North African country.

    The accord should remove the latest hurdle to improve ties between Italy and Libya, a major energy producer.

    The Italian Prime Minister stressed that this agreement with Libya will allow them to "turn to a new page". As he added Italy will pay 5 billion dollars in Libya for the next 25 years as compensation for the time of time period of Italys colonialism, in the form of investments in the infrastructure in the country.
