The IOC announced today that it has barred Greek sprinter Katerina Thanou from the Beijing Games, saying her role in a drug-testing cover-up four years ago in Athens was «a scandalous saga» that had brought the Olympic movement into disrepute. Katerina Thanou lawyers, however, had said that she will take legal action against the IOC in the event she was barred from The Beijing Olympic Games.

[02] Tennis: Karantasiou / Arbaniti Defeated

In the opening of Olympic tennis tournament Greek tennis players, poor performance of Baso Karantasiou and Vicky Arbaniti led to their defeat 2-0 set ( 21-18, 21-18) by Austrian sisters Stefani and Doris Zwaiger. Coach, Manolis Roumeliotis admitted that it was a fair victory of the Austrian sisters, however, the Greek team will not give up and continue its hard effort.
