Crude oil fell to $118 a barrel amid signs demand may be curtailed by slowdowns in the U.S. and European economies. Oil dropped as much as 2.8 percent as the services sectors in the U.S. and U.K. contracted in July, and European retail sales declined by the most in at least 13 years in June. Crude oil for September delivery fell $1.95, or 1.6 percent, to $119.46 a barrel at 2:15 p.m. on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Tense relations between the Western world and Iran are the main causes for high prices but investors seem to be calm to the numerous factors like weather conditions that effect prices, focusing in the variation of the offer-demand relation. And this is proved by the fact that they did not allow to the tropical storm Edward which sweeps the Mexican Gulf to threaten oil installations and to affect oil prices. Technical analysts estimate that prices will settle at $ 115 per barrel in the long run.
