  • [01] FYROM Government Elected By Parliament

    12 Ιουλ 2008 19:51:0

FYROM President Branko Crvenkovski has handed a mandate to outgoing Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski to form a new government following the partys landslide victory in the June 1 early elections, which were marred by clashes between DUI and DPA activists. Gruevskis conservative VMRO-DPMNE won 63 seats, the Social Democratic Union 27, DUI won 18 and DPA 11 in the 120-seat parliament. One seat went to a small pro-European party. Gruevski had been under pressure to form a coalition with the DUI, whose exclusion from the previous government, even though it garnered more votes than the DPA in 2006 elections, caused political and ethnic tensions. The new government should was elected by parliament today July 12.

    Giorgos Papandreou's Interview

    12 Ιουλ 2008 16:12:0

    By Athina Saloustrou

"Politics recesses when civilians feel that politicians do not offer solutions to their problems. This is the bet today: to find new progressive solutions to the old questions of the society", PASOK president explains. PASOK president also answered questions related to transparency issues of the opposition party. On reference to PASOK and New Democracy differences, Mr. Papandreou said that" conservatism in Greece and abroad has been dressed up with progressive clothes in order to conceal its true face-the equation with the few and strong people who gather the power and service the state in order to reinforce their interests." As per the progress of the Greek economy, Mr. Papandreou rejected the excuse that the international crisis is to blame while he attributed responsibilities to the government. Regarding Siemens case, Mr. Papandreou said that the problem is not political parties funding but the fact that this case has brought to light a yearly pathogenesis the political system suffers from.
