    Oil dropped below $136 on Tuesday, dropping by about $10 this week. U.S. light crude fell more than $6 to as low as $135.14 a barrel, the lowest since June 26. It traded $5.21 lower at $136.16 by 1653 GMT. London Brent crude fell $5.37 to $136.50. Hurricane Bertha became a "major" hurricane on Monday and hit the industry installations of the Gulf of Mexico. But analysts said the market focus would shift later this week to U.S. weekly oil statistics and a monthly report from the International Energy Agency (IEA), which will give a fresh look at the demand-supply situation.

    SYN civil secretary convened today and discussed the political developments and initiatives of the party, the materialization of the decisions taken by the partys latest central political committee and the projects of the committee of political rationale. In its announcements SYN stressed that efforts for the creation of a unified front against expensiveness and austerity initiated by the government must intensify. In addition, the partys committee of political rationale announced its decisions regarding the political developments on Siemens case.

    The state Mechanism handled smoothly Tuesdays rise of temperature while it is expected to will slightly drop on Wednesday. Prefectures and municipalities have put into effect "Perseas" emergency plan to hospitals and intensive care units in order to cover civilians risen needs, while ministry of development is appealing to civilians for restrain in energy. Citizens have to take necessary self protection measures on Wednesday. Sensitive social groups such as children and elders have to be extra cautious. Temperature in Athens rose to 36 C° today while on Wednesday it will slightly drop to 33 C°. In Thessaloniki temperature today was 33 C° while on Tuesday it will settle at the same levels. EMY (National Meteorological Service) is forecasting for tomorrow northern winds, a slight possibility of rainfalls mostly in northern parts of the country. Temperature is expected to drop and settle at 20 C°-36 C° on Wednesday. In Ionian Islands as well as in the mainland it will rise up to 37 C° and in Aegean Islands it will vary from 24 C° to 37 C°.

    Representatives of archeologists had a meeting today with KKE general secretary Mrs. Aleka Papariga in order to discuss the bill submitted to Parliament on the New Acropolis Museum. Mrs. Papriga said: "We think that it is our obligation to share the protest staged by the Union of Greek Archeologists and to support them on their fights regarding the draft bill to be voted in Parliament which provides for the museums denationalization and disengagement from Acropolis."

    A big part of pine and fir forest is burning in Karpenisi, Evritania. 10 fire brigade vehicles, 20 firemen, 2 firefighting planes and 2 helicopters are trying to put it out. In addition, another fire is in progress in Giannitsa, Pellas. Residential areas are not in danger. Furthermore, firemen are trying to put into control the fire that broke out in Tripoli.

    [06] 2006-7: Profits for ERT

    ΚERT gained profits more than 16 billion in 2007. In his interview, ERT President and Director Consultant, Mr. Panagopoulos assured that there is not going to be a rise in taxes during the next 4 years the. He also stated that costs coming from early retirement of ERT employees and losses rising now to 130 billion are going to be reduced. As confirmed by the general director of ERT Management and Finance Services, Mr. Giorgos Yfantis ERTs goal is to eliminate the losses until 2012.

    Mr. Panagopoulos also referred on ERTs important social contribution: return of money to citizens and installation of transmitters around Greece (more than 70 transmitters have been installed in isolated areas and islands), Prisma + digital channel, the satellite channel for expatriate Greeks, the creation of an audio visual archive, the musical ensembles performing more that 70 concerts in 2007, ERTs 60 international co productions with foreign countries, "Friendship" programme which is related with information programmes transmitted in 14 languages, Solidarity observatory for fire hit residents, the TV marathons organized by the state channels as well as the creation of the Center of Civilians Service. In addition he stressed that according to AGP measurements, the TV average rating rose. As per peoples preference in news reports, ERT occupies the second place following Mega channel. Focus gallop shows that 65% of viewers said that they are satisfied with the state channels broadcasting of latest news.
