Mr. Papandreou thanked the congresses for his re election and promised hard work so as the International Socialist to become stronger. In his speech, PASOK president referred on the issues of corruption, powers relations with financial interests and the capture-as he branded it- of the institutional interests by big businesses and Mass Media.

Pierre Mauroy, honorary president of International Socialist referred on the reconstitution and the route of Socialist International in 1951 stressing that the constitution started with 20 party members which became 40 in 1976 and after Berlins congress an important rise was reported reaching today 170 members which represent the constitution in every continent and democratic countries. Mr. Mauroy submitted in the congress his suggestion for the re election of Mr. Papandreou. The congress will be completed on Tuesday with the discussion on peace issues and the resolution of differences in the world as well as the route of global economy.

The fight of socialists is a fight for the rescue of humanity", Mr. Papandreou stressed. "The historic role of socialist democracy has not been completed yet, he added. The answer to the problems is to look into the democratic practices". He also focused on women, young peoples, minorities and immigrants roles that, as he pointed out, "dispute power and demand its distribution".

The president of Socialist International stressed that he intends to visit as many areas in Greece as possible in order to initiate talks on a new organization of the movement and on women, immigrants and young peoples participation in the discussions that are going to take place from now on. He also paid tribute to Benazir Bhutto who was assassinated last year.
