    At a spectacular event Wednesday night thejury and televoters gave the ticket to Kalomoira Saranti and her song "Secret Combination" to compete in the 53rd Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade!

    Music and dancing dominated the evening show at the Athinon Arena with Betty and Mathildi Maggira being the presenters of the Greek final.

    Tsekou Testifies Anew

    Prosecutor Eleni Raikou is questioning Evi Tsekou, the former Culture Ministry employee involved in the Zahopoulos case, about any financial impropriety during Zahopoulos tenure at the Ministry. Sources said that the magistrate intends to subpoena her anew to give additional clarifications. The magistrate is also going to subpoena the alleged dvd bearer, as well as the technician, who according to Tsekou, intercepted the controversial material at the offices of Sunday paper Proto Thema.

    Former Education Minister Marrieta Giannakou underwent cardiac angioplastic surgery on Wednesday, after suffering myocardial infarction on Tuesday. As per the latest medical announcement issued at Errikos Dynan Hospital the doctors placed a stent in the patients left coronary artery that suffered stenosis. Ms Giannakou is in the Intensive Care Unit, while the doctors have described her condition difficult as she suffers from diabetes mellitus.

    [04] "Yes" to UN Sanctions

    Russian Ambassador in the UN Vitali Tsurkin stated on Wednesday that Moscow is willing to support the UN resolution on fresh sanctions against Iran if Tehran will not change its policy on its nuclear programme.

    "Russia as a member of the Six (Britain, France, Russia, US, China, Germany) will resume the responsibility to support the UN resolution," stressed the Russian ambassador, stating that he was speaking of specialized sanctions.

    Meanwhile, US Deputy Spokesman Tom Casey announced that the Six, who met in Washington on Monday, are thinking of imposing fresh sanctions against Tehran.

    [05] Ministers-Stockbreeders Meeting

    At their meeting with stockbreeder representatives today in view of Easter holidays, Development Minister Chr. Folias and Rural Development Minister Al. Kontos promised that checks would intensify in the Greek market. The ministers also discussed the stockbreeders demands on boosting Greek stock farming. At the same time, stockbreeders marched to the Parliament to present political party leaders with their resolution of protest. The meeting was held in a positive climate, while the ministers promised to examine the stockbreeders requests and try to satisfy them.

    Meanwhile, the authorities have already to intensify checks on imported meat and prevent attempts to present it as Greek.

    Mr Folias stressed that the government is interested in seeing that young people continue occupying themselves with stockbreeding.

    Mr Kontos spoke about the measures that are being taken and continue being taken to boost Greek production of dairy products and meat.

    Finally, Mr Kampouris appeared satisfied over the dialogue, adding that what remains to see whether the governments promises will be kept.
