  • [01] Urgency for Diplomatic Means

  • [01] Pressure by All Sides for Peaceful Solution Urgency for Diplomatic Means

    30 Apr 2006 10:34:00

    By Mary Lou Tzempelikou

The international community is anxiously monitoring the reactions, which followed the release of the IAEA report on Iran's nuclear programme. Tehran has firmly announced it will not stop uranium enrichment, however it is open to reinspection of its nuclear facilities, provided IAEA's report leaves the UN's Security Council and returns to the hands of the International Atomic Energy Agency. Still though, the White House has already rejected such an eventuality. Meanwhile, all sides have addressed an appeal for a diplomatic solution to the crisis, while Russia called Tehran to suspend the uranium enrichment programme and cooperate with the IAEA. Greek Foreign and Defence Ministers Dora Bakoyannis and Evangelos Meimarakis noted the need to use up all diplomatic means to deal with the crisis, while George Papandreou moved on the same wavelength, noting Iran should make clear that its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes only.
