The Greek Water Polo team climbed at the third step of the podium in
the 11th FINA World Championships held in Montreal. Alessandro
Campagna's boys prevailed over Croatia 11-10 (9-9 regular period) after
a breathtaking game that came down to extra time. Giorgos Afroudakis
was the last minute's hero, as he scored the last but victorious goal
11.5 seconds before the end of extra time. For the Greek team, this is
by far the best place they have ever ranked in a major event. They had
come fourth in the Athens Olympic Games and at the 2003 world meet in
Barcelona. Well done to all the boys that honoured Greece with their
passion and claimed the bronze medal.
