North Aegean Port Authorities are on alert since morning, as a boat carrying 36 illegal immigrants of unknown origin remains ungoverned off the coasts of Mytilini. As per the port authorities, the boat is in Turkish territorial waters and is not in danger of sinking. The operations chamber of the Mercantile Marine Ministry was informed after receiving a call from an unknown man on board the boat. The number of the mobile phone was confirmed and its owner said he had set off with another 35 illegal immigrants from the coasts of Smyrna, but upon arriving at the strait southeast of Lesvos there was inflow of water in the boat. Super Puma helicopters have arrived at the scene, as well as Port Authority boats and close-sailing ships.
