    The day will be sunny in all parts of the country, with cloud building up in the centre and north from early evening, which may lead to isolated showers or storms. The temperature in Athens will range from 24 to 35C, in the islands from 22 to 33C and in Thessaloniki from 23 to 31C.

    [02] Tank trunk owners end their strike except in Thessaloniki

    Tank trunk owners, responsible for the transfer of petrol, have ended their strike with the exception of tank trunk owners of northern Greece. Thessaloniki is already facing problems with the supply of fuel by petrol stations.

    The Panhellenic Federation of tank trunk owners ended its strike after long negotiations with the ministries of Finance and Transport during which it was agreed that a small rise in transfer charges be given to them by petrol companies.

    [03] Cabinet to discuss restructuring of prefectures

    The cabinet will meet today under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Costas Simitis to discuss the new Municipalities and Communities Code, as well as the country's Administrative Restructuring.

    Then Mr Simitis will address PASOK Panhellenic farmers' meeting on the issue of the revision of the joint agricultural policy.

    Meanwhile, during a two-hour meeting was held at the Maximos Mansion at 11am yesterday morning, between Prime Minister Costas Simitis and members of the board of the Central Association of Municipalities and Communities of Greece (KEDKE), it was agreed that the Organisations of self government receive 310 million euros more to settle their debts to municipalities.

    Additionally, Prefect of Athens-Piraeus Fofi Genimata told the Presidency of Unions of Greek Prefectural Local Governments that Mr Simitis committed himself that prefectures would receive 433 million euros.

    [04] ND wants ASE transactions of MPs to be opened

    A nominal voting will take place at Parliament today, following New Democracy party's proposal regarding transactions of MPs with the Athens Stock Exchange.

    ND party leader Costas Karamanlis accused the government of being faint hearted and held it responsible for the Athens Stock Exchange, adding that the New Democracy party MPs' codes, regarding their transactions with the ASE are at the disposal of the competent Parliamentary Committee.

    Finally, Mr Costas Karamanlis criticized the government yesterday for the problems existing in Athens, including the high cost of living, the rise of crime, the use of the old Athens airport. Mr Karamanlis also accused the government of not keeping its promises made during the pre election period.

    [05] Reppas presents measures for combating unemployment

    Labour Minister Dimitris Reppas presented the measures of the National Action Plan regarding the boosting of employment and the decrease of unemployment at a special committee at Zappeion Mansion.

    Special emphasis was given to part time employment for young men and women, not only in the Civil Service but also to the private sector, while a readjustment of Manpower Organisation programme will take place regarding subsidizing.
