(26/7/2003 11:21:00 ðì) [04] Government aims at combating profiteeringDeclaring open the sessions of the National Consumers Committee, Development Minister Akis Tsochatzopoulos asked for the consumers' cooperation in combating profiteering in the market.Meanwhile, commenting on New Democracy party leader Costas Karamanlis' statement according to which Athens is champion in expensiveness, Press Minister Christos Protopapas noted that Mr Karamanlis' allegations proved wrong since according to the Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development, Greece is the second cheaper European Union member state after Portugal. Mr Protopapas also accused Mr Karamanlis of defaming Greece in the peak of tourist season. In reply, New Democracy spokesman Thodoris Rousopoulos said that the civilians know well whether Greece is a cheap or expensive country and nobody can fool them. (26/7/2003 11:23:00 ðì) [05] MPs' transactions with the ASE are confidential says ChristodoulakisReferring to New Democracy party's proposal for the lifting of the Athens Stock Exchange confidentiality of MPs, Finance Minister Nikos Christodoulakis told the Institutions and Transparency Committee that the proposal was forcing 'open doors'. Also, referring to tabling of Messrs Neonakis and Manikas' transactions with the Athens Stock Exchange at Parliament he said that that was against the law.The New Democracy party' s parliamentary representative said that the amendment tabled by the New Democracy party all data should be disclosed irrelevant of a case of a penal offence.
