    Hot, sunny weather is forecast in all parts of the country. Winds northerly, light in the Ionian turning to strong in parts of the Aegean. The temperature in Athens will range from 18 to 30C and in Thessaloniki from 15 to 29C.

    [02] Simitis' associate proposes measures

    Prime Minister Costas Simitis' close associate Socrates Kosmides is proposing changes in the political system, the governing system and public administration.

    His proposals appear to be interesting following Mr Simitis' statements that he will introduce changes after the Greek EU Presidency.

    Among the changes proposed is the decrease of the number of ministries to 12 or 14, as well the decrease of the number of prefectures and number of civil servants.

    Moreover, he proposes strict checks on politicians' income.

    [03] Simitis continues his tour to newly acceded countries to the EU

    Within the framework of his tour to the newly acceded countries to the EU, Prime Minister Costas Simitis is in Poland today.

    Following his meeting with his Lithuanian counterpart Algirdas Brazauskas in Vilnius yesterday, Mr Simitis said that now country could deal with the spread of the Sars virus and illegal immigration on its own.

    Additionally, he stated that international terrorism is still a danger, underlining that we must be very careful since it is caused by ideological and economical factors.

    Finally, he committed himself that the Greek EU Presidency would see to settling of the Israeli Palestinian conflict with the implementation of USA, UN, EU and Russia's plan for the founding of an independent Palestinian state.

    [04] Recovery of Sars cases in Hong Kong

    In Hong Kong, 70 cases suffering of the pneumonia like virus have begun recovering faster and without any side effects after they had been given a serum with patients' antibodies.

    Meanwhile, the number of the dead in China has reached 220 and worldwide 500. In Germany, eight cases possible Sars cases have been reported, while 38 cases are suspected to be connected to Sars.

    Finally, in Greece the hospitals of the big cities have prepared halls for cases suspected to be connected to Sars, while a quarantine room is ready to host passengers who are suspected to be carrying the Sars virus.
