The destruction of the missiles took place on date set as limit by the UN head inspector Hans Blix.No 2 official of the UN Inspection and Verification Committee Dimitris Perikos described the development a positive move, adding that the inspectors expect that the biggest number of the missiles be destroyed today. Meanwhile, Washington described the destruction of the fist missiles as a misleading game, while the British Foreign Minister Jack Straw commented that the Iraqis are making concessions so as to gain time and avoid war. At the same time, the Turkish Parliament finally rejected the government proposal for the deployment of American soldiers on Turkish soil with only three votes needed for the proposal to pass. From his side, Turkish Prime Minister Abdulah Gul stated that the his government might examine the possibility of fresh voting, while Mr Tayeep Erdogan spoke of an absolutely democratic result. On a relative development, the State Department asked from the Turkish government to comment on the results of the voting, while the American Ambassador to Ankara stated that his country respects the decision of the Parliament. Meanwhile, the Kurdish leaders Masoud Barzani warned that if the Turkish army invaded Northern Iraq, then the Kurds in Iraq would uprise. At the same time the Arab leader, who met in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt yesterday declared that they are totally opposed to a military intervention in Iraq, adding that the UN inspectors should be given more time.
