    A cloudy day is forecast in all parts of the country, with showers or sleet and snow on high ground. Winds variable, strong to gale force. Temperatures in Athens will range between 2C to 9C and in Thessaloniki between 1C to 5C. Light snow is expected on Mount Parnes, outside Athens.

    [02] Goverment will compensate victims of recent extreme weather conditions

    The goverment has reaffirned that all victims of the recent wave of bad weather will be compensated while according to first estimations damages in the prefecture of Larissa mount up to 6 million euro. In the meantime 20 mountain villages in the prefecture of Rodopi and 13 in the prefecture of Evros remain cut off due to heavy snowfall in the region.

    Following the complaints of over 80 people about light gastro enteritis symptoms , residents of the city, Katerini have been advised to drink bottled water as there are suspicions that the city s water supply system has been possibly damaged by the extreme weather conditions.

    Due to gale force winds a ban has been imposed on coastal shipping from Pireus and Rafina ports as well as most short ferry crossings while flights to the islands of Leros and Milos have been cancelled.

    [03] GDP increased by 3.6%

    According to data released by the National Statistics Service , in the third trimester this year, the Gross Domestic Product has increased by 3,6 % compared to initial predictions about a 3,4%. In the meantime inflation has dropped to 3,6% in November compared to 3,7% in Ocotober.

    Finance Minister, Nikos Hristodoulakis has predicted that develoment pace this year could increase by over 3,8% while N.D leader, Kostas Karamanlis has proposed a new offensive economic policy with a non-bureaucratic state backing meritocracy and electronic management .

    [04] National Bank reduces interest rates

    The National Bank has decided a 35% to 50% reduction of interest rates on saving accounts and 25% to 50% reduction of interest rates on loans. The Citibank has not changed interest rates on saving accounts but has decided a 0,5% reduction of consumption loans.

    [05] Common battle to combat corruption

    Commenting on a speech by Supreme Court Prosecutor, Evangelos Kroustalakis who called on all officials to join in a battle against corruption and illegal acts, Press Minister, Hristos Protopappas asked for the cooperation of the goverment, the parliament and justice to combat corruption.

    The parliament committee for Institutions and Transparency will convene within the next few days to discuss the subject.
