    Rain and storms are forecast in all parts of the country, with snow expected to fall on high ground in the north. Winds variable, moderate to very strong. In the north, temperatures will range from 4C to 12C; in the Ionian and on the rest of the mainland from 12C to 19C; and in the Aegean islands from 15C to 22C. Temperatures in Athens between 16C and 20C; and in Thessaloniki from 7C to 12C.

    [02] Bad weather conditions to continue prevailing

    According to the National Meteorological Service the adverse weather conditions prevailing almost the whole of the country will continue especially in Eastern Macedonia, Thrace, North-east Aegean, Eastern mainland, Evia and the Peloponese.

    The prefecture of Attica was hit by thunderstorms in the early morning hours, while cars and roofs of houses sustained damages from the hailstone that hit western suburbs.

    The weather is expected to improve from Saturday afternoon.

    [03] Expecting Mr Annan&#8217;s plan for the resolution of the Cyprus issue

    With Greece and Cyprus expecting the United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan to submit his plan for the Cyprus issue, Mr Annan has stated that he has not taken his final decision.

    Meanwhile, American President George W. Bush, British Prime Minister Tony Blair as well as his Dutch counterpart sent letters to Mr Annan to accelerate the submission of his plan.

    At the same time, Prime Minister Costas Simitis and the French President Zacques Chirac agreed that the Cyprus&#8217; accession to the European Union is irrelevant of the political solution of the Cyprus issue.

    Mr Simitis, who is going to meet with German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder in Berlin tomorrow, stated that the European Union enlargement agreement will be signed in Athens on April 16.

    On a relative development, following his telephone conversation with the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, Foreign Minister George Papandreou reiterated that the Cyprus issue must be solved on the basis of the United Nations resolutions.

    In the meantime, in an interview with the Turkish Channel NTV, Mr Erdogan, the winner of the Turkish elections stated that his statements regarding the solution of the Cyprus issue on the basis of the Belgian model had been misunderstood, adding that the Belgian model just served as a source of inspiration.

    Mr Erdogan will visit the occupied part of Cyprus on November 15 and then Athens on 18 November.

    [04] Cancer to be tackled soon

    On the occasion of the 23rd Panhellenic Surgery Congress and the International Surgery Forum that will be held in Athens from 9 &#8211; 12 November, a medical company announced that the first vaccine that will suspend the development of cancer at teats, stomach and prostate will circulate soon after the approval of the American Foodstuffs and Medical organisation.

    In an interview with NET 105.8, surgeon and Athens University Professor Constantinos Karatolias state that many forms of cancer will be a past by 2010, adding that the decoding of the genetic material will allow for the production of vaccines the will inhibit the expansion of cancer with the use of viruses.

    [05] The Hellenic Presidency reacts to Mr Mitsotakis statements

    The Hellenic Presidency reacted to New Democracy party Honorary President Costas Mitsotakis&#8217; statements according to which the President of the Hellenic Republic should not be signing legal instruments on issues that political parties at Parliament do not agree.

    In reply, the Hellenic Presidency issued an announcement according to which the Constitution allows the Hellenic President to issue legal instruments following the Cabinet&#8217;s proposals.

    Finally, government spokesman Christos Protopapas described New Democracy party&#8217;s attack to the Hellenic Presidency as unacceptable, while New Democracy spokesman Theodoris Rousopoulos replied that Mr Protopapas was judging others on the basis of his acts.

    [06] Florides praises Greek economy

    In an interview with NET 105.8, Finance Deputy Minister Giorgos Florides described as exaggerations the insolvency of Greek households, adding that the Greeks&#8217; dream for a home can come true with Bank loans that are guaranteed. He also added that the Greek economy is reinforced, describing New Democracy party&#8217;s criticism on this issue as unreal.
