    Sunshine is forecast in all parts of the country, with early morning mist on the mainland and Ionian. Winds variable, light to moderate. In the north, temperatures will range from 09C to 25C; in the west from 11C to 27C; and in the rest of the country from 12C to 26C. Temperatures in Athens between 14C and 26C; and in Thessaloniki from 12C to 22C.

    [02] Three days to the second round of Municipal and Prefectural elections

    With three days to the second round of the Municipal and Prefectural elections, PASOK party is trying to attract left wing voters, the New Democracy party will vote for combinations that are against the government policy and the Greek Communist party is urging its voters not to vote for the New Democracy and PASOK parties. At the same time Synaspismos party leader Nikos Constantopoulos are asking from everybody to vote on the basis of political and criteria and criteria related to the Local Administration.

    From its side, the Democratic Socialist Movement is advising its voters not to vote for the New Democracy, PASOK and Synaspismos parties. In an interview with NET, Democratic Socialist Movement candidate Giannis Dimaras stated that he could not decided for the participants in his combination what to do in the second round, since they do not only come from his party.

    From his side, a few hours before revealing his future moves, Mr Giorgos Karatzaferis said in Thessaloniki yesterday that the New Democracy party tried to buy off his combination&#8217;s candidates, while from its side the ND party rejected these statements.

    Meanwhile, during the presentation of his book &#8220;For a Strong Greece&#8221; yesterday, Prime Minister Costas Simitis said that reality is being distorted, referring also to a populist mentality.

    In reply, New Democracy party spokesman Theodoris Rousopoulos said that with their vote, civilians denounced Mr Simitis&#8217; policy.

    At the same time, Athens candidate Mayor Chistos Papoutsis launched a verbal attack against his opponent Dora Bakoyianni accusing her of refusing public dialogue and of lacking any proposals. Moreover, he said that all candidates in her combination are to be blamed for the situation today.

    From her side, Mrs Dora Bakoyianni stated that past dilemmas could not be used to blackmail voters.

    Meanwhile, government spokesman Christos Protopapas accused the New Democracy party of trying to involve the Church in politics, reiterating that the Church and the state have different roles.

    In reply, the New Democracy party announced that Mrs Fofi Genimata had also visited the Archbishop. Moreover, in an interview with NET 105.8 New Democracy spokesman Theodoris Rousopoulos said that the Archbhishop&#8217;s meetings with candidates do not constitute a Church intervention in politics.

    [03] N17 trial to begin in spring 2003

    The trial of the members of the terrorist organisation N17, which will begin in spring 2003, participating will be American and Turkish diplomats, as well as survivors from the organisation&#8217;s bomb attacks.

    In the meantime, Dionyis Georgiades, Ageliki Sotiropoulou and Constantinos Telios will re-testify again at Korydalos prison. Finally, magistrate Leonidas Zerbobeakos brought additional charges against Patroklos Tselendis and Nikos Papanastasiou yesterday.

    [04] Klerides pays official visit to Greece

    The President of the Cyprus Republic Glafkos Klerides is paying a three-day official visit to Athens today.

    Moreover, the seventh round of exploratory contacts between Athens and Ankara on a Secretary level of the Greek and Turkish Foreign Ministries will take place in Ankara today.
