    Cloudy weather and showers are forecast in many parts of the country, with storms in the Cyclades, Crete and Dodecanese islands. The west and north will be sunny. Winds north-northeasterly, moderate to very strong, likely to turn gale force in parts of the Aegean. In the north, temperatures will range from 11C to 21C; in the west from 13C to 24C; and in the rest of the country from 14C to 23C. Temperatures in Athens between 16C and 22C; and in Thessaloniki from 14C to 21C.

    [02] Expecting the second round of municipal and prefectural elections

    With the second round of municipal and prefectural elections this Sunday, political parties appear satisfied with last Sunday results.

    Government spokesman Christos Protopapas stated that the New Democracy party failed to use the local administration as a means of making political party correlations, adding that PASOK ruling party would support progressive candidates in the second round if its candidates were not successful.

    In an interview with NET 105.8, Deputy Press Minister Tilemachos Chytiris stated that what New Democracy party did not manage to have its plans fulfilled.

    From his side, New Democracy party spokesman Theodoris Rousopoulos stressed that on a Panhellenic level, his party can be proclaimed winner in terms of votes, percentages and number of prefectures.

    Meanwhile, Greek Communist party Secretary General Aleka Papariga has asked from political parties to cooperate against the New Democracy and PASOK parties.

    Finally, Archbishop Christodoulos described Mr Giorgos Karatzaferis&#8217; voters good Christians and not extreme rightists.

    [03] Fofi Genimata and Dora Bakoyianni first in the first round

    The counting of ballots will have been concluded by Thursday, while the counting of crosses for municipal and prefectural advisors will begin from early Friday.

    According to the final results for the Athens-Piraeus prefecture, PASOK candidate Fofi Genimata is first with 40.1%, New Democracy party candidate Giannis Tzanetakos second with 26.8%, third comes Mr Giorgos Karatzaferis with 13.7%, fourth Mr Glezos with 10.8% and last Mr Pafilis with 8.7%.

    From her side, Mrs Genimata stated that a democratic and progressive current would be created in the following days, describing Mr Giorgos Karatzaferis&#8217; percentage opportunist.

    At the same time, New Democracy party candidate Giannis Tzanetakos appeared certain that he would be the winner in the second round.

    New Democracy party candidate for the Athens Town Hall Dora Bakoyianni expressed her satisfaction over the percentage of the first round, calling other party voters to vote for her.

    In reply, PASOK candidate Christos Papoutsis advised his opponents not to haste since his party would be the winner in the second round.

    Finally, according to Kapa Research, on out of four New Democracy supporters voted for Mr Giorgos Karatzaferis in the first round.
