[02] PM Simitis letter on the 2nd EU Support Framework funds

In a reply letter to EU Commissioner Michel Barnier the Greek Prime Minister Kostas Simitis gave assurances that EU funds of the 2nd EU Support Framework do not risk of being lost.

Mr. Simitis holds the opposition New Democracy (ND) party responsible for the inefficient studies of certain works of the 2nd EU Support Framework in the period 1990 1993, when it was in power.

The Prime Minister admits in his reply letter that there was a problem, but after 1994, the government took up initiatives in order to meet the deadlines.

The Ministry of Finance made it clear that the relative funds will be received normally by the end of the year, while Finance undersecretary Christos Pachtas denied that funds of the 3rd EU Support Framework will be cut.

In response to the Prime Minister s statements on the ND party, ND deputy Aristidis Tsiplakos said that the government is trying to justify itself through insults against the opposition ND and then urged Mr. Pachtas to resign.
