    [02] U.S attack latest developments

The American Pentagon in absolute secrecy is drawing up plans and selecting targets for its campaign against Afganistans ruling Taliban. American President George Bush advisor on security issues, Kontoliza Reiss for the first time admitted that the US want to overthrow Agganistan' s regime. A US military team is in Pakistan to discuss plans for Wshington' s campaign against Afganistan' s ruliong Taliban and their guest Osama bin Laden. A spokesman of the American embassy in Islamabad said he could confirm bin Laden' s presence in Afgansitan but refused to get into details. American Secretary of State, Colin Powell said that the US will soon release evidence linking Saudi-born militant Osama bin Laden to the attacks on NY and Washington. In the meantime, the US stepped up demands that Afganistan surrender fugitive militant Osama bin Laden, dismissing protests from the ruling Taliban that the man Wshington says is behind the devastatting attacks on the US has disappeared.

On their part, the Taliban announced that they had shot down an unmanned spy plane deployed as part of the effort to retaliate for attacks on the US. American Defence Secretary Donald Runsfeld confirmed that the US lost contact with the unmanned spy plane while flying over Afganistan air space but stressed it had no reason to believe the reconnaissance aircraft had been shot down.

A Japanese news agency reported this morning that the US has warned its allies of a possible second round of attacks this week. In its effort to create the strongest possible front against terrorism, the US has lifted economic sanctions against Pakistan and India. At the same time, Uzbekistan, Kazakstan, Tazikistan, Lebanon and the six Gulf Arab states pledged support to the US international campaign against terrorism, while Saudi Arabia has refused to allow the US to use its bases for attacks against Afganistan.

According to a poll conducted by the television channel CNN and the american newspaper "USA-Today" about 90% of the American people- a record high in the last 60 years relevant polls - approve President Bush plans against terrorism. In a relative develoment, British Foreign Minister Jack Starw , who is today beginning a historic visit to Iran, will call on Iranian President Hatami to locate terrorist Imand Mugniyia who is believed to have played a major role in the attacks against the US on September 11. An article in todays issue of the daily British newspaper "Daily Mail" says that the present US President George Bush and one of bin Landen brothers killed in an air crash in 1983- had jointly founded an oil-company in Texas in 1978. With the world on tenterhooks awaiting news of a military response to the US attacks, most global markets seem set for another round of heavy losses in the week ahead, but some analysts anticipate a short-term bounce for ravaged U.S equities. In the meantime, Asian money markets opened with an upward trend today while trading on the Athens bourse will also stick to the 12-18 hours schedule this week to adjust with the sessions of the other European stock markets and the Wall Street.
