    [01] Weather forecast

    Fair weather is forecast throughout the country today. Strong to very strong winds turning into gale force winds in the Aegean . Temperatures ranging from 12-25 degrees Celcius.

    [02] Social Security System reforms

    According to May Day speeches , the General Confederation of Greek Workers will only take part in a social dialogue f the goverment guarantees the tripartite financing of the social insurance system and the comits itself to find the funds to support it . The creation of a social source for the long-term support of the social security system is expected to be the National Economy Minister's proposal in the social dalogue .

    National Economy Minister Yiannos Papantoniou - who is on an official visit to the US said that the goverment's economic staff has drawn up a proposal for the creation of a " social source " finnanced by funds from privatisations . Mr. Papantoniou let be understood that there was no question about imposition of new taxes since the present budget guarantees the viability of the social security system till 2012 when issue of financing the social security system would be raised .

    [03] Techological Istitutes closed

    Technological Institutes will remain closed for 3-days due to the abstaintion of professors from ther duties .

    [04] Demonstration against the Pope's visit to Athens

    Monks from Mt.Athos and Theological School professors this afternoon will stage a demonstration in protest against Pope's John Paul visit to Athens outside the Athens Cathedral

    In the meantime, the Metropolita of Alexadropolis Anthimos has called on the fathful not to take part in protest demonstartions, stressing that the Greek Orthodox Church is not endangered by the Pope's visit to Athens .

    In an interview with the Greek state radio , Mr.Anthimos said that an apology by the Pope during his official visit to Greece could be a very signficant step for the openig of a dialogue on issues dividg the two churches.

    [05] Cyprus President Klerides in Athens

    Cyprus President Glafkos Kleridis will meet with the Greek President , Kostis Stefanopoulos today while the Greek and Cypriot delegations will begin talks . Later, Mr.Klerdis will meet with the Athens Mayor Diitris Avramopoulos who will present him with the city's "Golden Key"

    In the afternoon Mr Kleridis will meet with Archibshop Hristodoulos and next will attend a special event where he will unveil the statue of Archbishop Makarios . In the evening he will attend an official dinner hosted by the Greek President Kostis Stefanopoulos .

    [06] Hatziapostolou died of cancer

    Manolis Hatziapostolou , 72 , died of cancer yesterday . Hatziapostolou , who became a legend in contemporary Greek history had linked his life with the struggle and tragic death of peace activist ,Grigoris Lambrakis .

    [07] FYROM President ruled out talks with Albanian guerillas

    The President of FYROM ,Boris Traikofsky has ruled out any possibility of proceeding to talks wth Albanian guerillas while he called on the US State Department to include the so- called Albanian National Liberation Army in the catalogue of terrorist organisations .

    [08] Syrian President against attack on Israel

    Syrian President Basar al Assad stated today that for the tie being ,he ruled out at a military attack on Israel sice this would only serve the Israeli Prime-minister Ariel Sharon.

    [09] Fire in Cologne's recreation park

    A fire broke out in a recreation park in Cologne , 32 people were injured .

    [10] Car accident in Austria , 6 dead

    In Austria 6 people lost their lives and 20 were injured in a car accident near Tyrolo .

    [11] Improvement of conditions in Turkey's ''white cells''

    Turkish deputies yesterday approved a draftbill improving conditions in the isolation white cells in high security Turkish prisons .
