    [01] Social security issue enters into its final stage this week

    The socal security issue is entering into its final stage this week .Prime-minister Simitis will meet with Labour Minister Tasos Yiannitsis on Thursday while final decisions will be taken during Thursday's joint meeting of the Pasok party Central Committee and Executive Office .

    [02] Holiday makers return to the city

    This year's mass exodus was one of the largest in the recent years , while many city dwellers have extended their Easter Holidays till next week. However, 17 people were killed and 279 injured in road accidents so far.

    No serious problems were noted at the new Athens airport and the ports of Pireus and Rafina.

    [03] Gospel read in the Homer language

    At the Athens Cathedral, the Gospel at this year's vesper mass on Easter Day was also read in the Homer language apart from all the other languages. As Archbishop of Athens and all Greece, Hristodoulos underlined, this sgnificant innovation was introduced to stress the ecumenic message of Christ's resurrection.

    [04] The crisis in Skopyie would be overcome

    In an interview with the Yiougoslav newsagency " Sense ", Greek Foreign Minister, Giorgos Papandreou expressed optimism that the recent crisis in the Former Yiougoslav Republic of Macedonia would not extend.

    Mr. Papandreou stressed that the crisis in the neighboring country could be overcome through common efforts by the US, the EU and the countries of Southeastern Europe.

    He also reiterated that Greece was specially interested in a permanent stability in the region. In the meantime, a delegation of the ruling Pasok party headed by the party's General Secretary, Kostas Skandalidis will visit Skopyie today.

    [05] Turkish Foreign Minister visits the occupied part of Cyprus

    Turkish Foreign Minister, Ismail Cem is expected to meet with officials of Dektash pseudo state today within the framework of his 3-day official visit to the occupied part of Cyprus. Bilateral cooperation and the Cyprus issue will be the focus of his contacts.

    [06] Ecumenic Patriarchate, the only institution to withstand long-lasting persecution and martydom

    Addressing pilgrims from Thessaloniki, Ecumenic Patriarch Vartholomeos stressed the importance of the Patriarchate, underlining that no other institution has withstood such long-lasting persecution and martydom while he complanied that some modern Greeks ignore the importance of the Patriarchate.

    In parallel he accused of matricide those who did not respect the role and history of the Patriarchate and the culture of Konstantinopolis.

    [07] Retroactive effect to family allowance for civil servants who had recourse to court

    The family allowance will be granted retroactively to civil servants who have taken recourse to justice. According to reports, the decison was taken by the plenum of the State Judical Council during an extraordinary meeting following a request by the Economics undersecretary, Giorgos Drys, responsible for the implementation of the state budget.

    [08] Ship under Cyprus flag caught fire, three seamen dead

    Three seamen, among them Greek mechanic Dimitris Haviaras, aged 52, died when the ship Surfmarine-Galana under Cyprus flag caught fire off the Durban port in South Africa. The other members of the crew are safe.

    [09] Weather forecast

    A cloudy day with sunny intervals and local rains , gradual increase in temperatures.

    In Athens the temperature will range from 9-23 degrees centigrade and in Thessalonki from 10 -22 degrees centigrade.
