    [01] Prime-minister Simitis efforts to reverse the negative

    climate among Pasok party members

    In view of the meetings of the Pasok party Executive Office and Central Committee , Prime-minister Kostas Simitis on Tuesday had successive meetings with senior members of the goverment aimed to reverse the recent negative climate within the ruling party .

    Goverment Spokesman Dimitris Reppas stated that there were always different views in politics , however the people has given the goverment the mandate to carry out its task .

    Following their meeting with Prime-minister Simitis , Interior and Education Ministers , Vaso Papandreou and Petros Efthimiou respectively underlined the need for all to join in the common effort and leave introversion behind .

    The Executive Office is expected to examine the situation prevailing in the ruling Pasok party in its meeting today while the Cetral Committee will examine the same issue next Friday .

    According to reports , Mr.Simitis is expected to clarify that there was never question of cutting off historical members from the top of the ruling party's pyramid and underline that the of vital importance renewal and enlargement of the Pasok party was under no circumstances linked with the settling up of interior party differences .

    [02] Meeting of Prime-minister Simitis with Economics Minister

    National Economy Minister , Yiannos Papantoniou briefed Prime-minister Simitis on the recent decisons of the EKOFIN , specifically the approval of two operational programs of the third community support framework and the preparations for the summit meeting in Stocholm to be held on March 23 to 25 .

    In his statements after the meeting , Mr.Papantoniou underlined the positive course of the economy and stressed the need for contiuation of the present efforts .

    [03] Dialogue on reforms in the social security system begins at

    the end of March

    Labour Minister Tasos Yiannitsis said that the dialogue on reforms in the social security system would begin at the end of the month provided that the British agency - studying the Greek socal security system - would have submitted its report In the meantime , Prime-minister Simtis and competent Ministers will meet today to discuss the goverment's proposals .

    Proposed reforms are expected to be the basic subject of tomorroow's meeting of the General Confederation of Greek Workers

    [04] Greek Foreign Minister concluded his 3-day official visit to

    Cyprus

    Greek Foreign Minister Giorge Papandreou met with Cyprus President Glafkos Kleridis , goverment officials and Cypriot party representatives during his 3-day official visit to Cyprus .

    Following his meeting with Mr.Kleridis , Mr.Papandreu stated that according to the decisions of the EU summit meeting in Nice Cyprus -EU admission negotiations would conclude within two years .

    Mr.Papandreou also underlined the close cooperation between the Greek and Cyprus goverments , adding that Mr. Kleridis would soon visit Athens .

    In reference to Turkey , he said that it had two choices -either to agree on Cyprus admssion to the EU with the inclusion of Turkish=Cypriots or without them .

    Meanwhile , in an inteview with the Turkish newspaper " Houriet " , Mr. Papandreou said that Cyrus would determine the future of Greek-Turkish relations and assesed that Cyprus admission to the EU prior to the solution of the Cyprus issue would not have an impact on Athens-Ankara relations as such a development would relieve Turkey from the problem of Cyprus and would open the way for a further Greek-Turkish approach

    Concluding Mr.Papandreou said that Cyprus would either unite or divide us but we wish it united us .

    Meeting of Transport Ministers for the upgrading of road

    network ''10 ''

    The Transport Ministers of Greece ,FYROM ,Bulgaria , Slovenia ,Hungary , Croatia and Austria will et in Thessaloniki on Friday to sign an agreement for the upgrading of the road network "10" which goes through Yiougoslavia and its the main land transport exit for Greek products .

    Electronic and local authority archives for the strenghtening

    of relations of Greeks living abroad with the motherland

    With the aim to strenghen relations of Greeks living abroad with the mother land , the Council of Hellenes abroad in cooperation with the local administration is proceeding with the implementation of an operational Action Plan which among others provides for the organisation of electronic and regional archives of Greek sliving abroad and the construction of hostels .

    Parliament continues debate on Interior Ministry draftbill

    regarding economic immigrants

    The plenum of the parliament today continues the debate on the draftbill regarding the entrance and stay of economic immigrants in Greece.

    [08] Alternate Foreign Minister Elisavet Papazoi in Rumania

    Rumania's application for admission into the EU is the basic subject of talks between the Rumanian leadership and the Greek alternate Foreign Minister Elisavet Papazoi who is on an official visit to Bucarest .

    Mrs. Papazoi met with the Ministers for Foreign Affairs and European Integration Mirtsea Dan Joana ad Hidegard Puvak on Tuesday .

    After the meeting she stated that Greece would continue to support Rumania's efforts for admission into the EU and the NATO alliance .

    During the meeting ,they also discussed the situation in the Balkans and Greek-Rumanian bilateral relations .

    Mrs.Papazoi will be received by the Rumanian President Ion Ilieskou today .

    [09] Two modern wind powered turbines will resolve the energy

    problem in Crete

    Development Minister Nikos Hristodoulakis announced that two modern wind -powered turbines -starting operation this summer - will resolve the energy problem on the island of Crete .

    Mr.Hristodoulakis also announced the approval of a competition program for medium size businesses , research , technology and tourism .

    [10] Athens stock market

    The negative climate in world markets had an impact on the Athens stock market yesterday which went down by 0,86% to close at 3.231 points .

    [11] Summer time from March , 25th

    As of Sunday March, 25 , summer time will be in effect in all EU member states . Transport Minister announced that at 3 hours on Sunday , March , 25 , clocks must be changed one hour faster to indicate 4 hours

    [12] Weather forecast

    The National Metereological Service has forecast sporadic showers in most parts of the country and moderate westerly and southwesterly winds . In Athens the temperature will range from 10-19 degrees centigrade ,in Thessaloniki from 5-17 and on the islands of the Aegean from 10-20 degrees centigrade .
