    [01] Celebrations for 2.000 years of Christianity

    Celebrations organized by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople for the 2.000 years of Christianity culminated yesterday, with the participation of all Patriarchs and Achbishops of the Orthodox churches, with the exception of Moscow Patriarch, Alexios. The mass was officiated among the ruins of St. Sofia church in Bethany. In their messages directed to Chistians and Orthodox people throughout the world as well as to every person with good will intentions, the leaders of the Orthodox churches pointed out the need for elimination of discriminations, for respect of individuality and the unity of churches.

    [02] New drop of interest rates

    Today, the Bank of Greece is expected to proceed to its final interest rate decrease by 1%, in order to achieve convergence with the respective European interest rates. Thus, the Central Bank's prime rate will fall to 4,75%, setting off a new round of interest rate decreases in Commercial banks.

    [03] Fuel prices to drop as of tomorrow

    A new drop of fuel prices will be implemented as of tomorrow. Specifically the Development ministry has anounced that unleaded will be sold by 6 drachmas less per litre, while the prices of diesel oil and heating oil may even drop by 8 drachmas.

    [04] ''Anarchist Attack Groups'' assume responsibility for bomb attacks

    With a telephone call to the newspaper "Eleftherotypia", the organization "Anarchist Attack Groups" assumed responsibility for the bomb attack against the branch of the Agricultural Bank in Alimos. The same organisation assumed responsibility of the bomb attack against the branch of City Bank in Palaio Phaliron.

    [05] Tsochatzopoulos to tour the Dodecanese

    On the occasion of Christmas holidays and New Year's Day, National Defence minister Akis Tsochatzopoulos will tour the Dodecanese today. Mr. Tsochatzopoulos will go first to the island of Leros, where he will visit the war ships there, the psychiatric unit and the army camp. Then he will visit the islet of Pharmakonisi and then the Kos.

    [06] Abducted person's family ask for their son's exchange

    Panikos Tsiakourma's family and relatives have asked for the exchange of their son, who had been kidnapped by the occupation forces in Cyprus, with the Turkish-Cypriot drug dealer Omer Tekokoul. The General Prosecutor stated that the exchange issue did not lie in his jurisdiction, advising at the same time for patience.

    [07] Biggest fossilized tree trunk discovered in Lesvos

    The biggest fossilized tree trunk in the world was discovered in Western Lesvos, within the framework of the programmed excavations of the Museum of Natural History of the Fossilized Wood of Lesvos. Its perimetre reaches 13,7 metres and its diametre 3,7 metres.
