The national meteorological service has forecast deterioration of the weather with significant drop in temperature and local rains.

The sailing of ships from the ports of Peireus and Rafina to the islands of the Aegean and Crete was forbidden this morning due to strong gale winds.

The yacht Sofia with 3 people on board send a signal at 5 o'clock this morning that it was ungoverned in gale force winds north of the island Donoussa. The passenger ship Marina and two helicopters of the air-force are heading to the region for help.

There is high concern on how people will deal with the new sky high increase in the price of heating oil in view of winter. Indicative of the problem is the low number of orders for heating oil despite the forecast for significant drop in temperatures.

Greek Defence Minister Akis Tsohatzopoulos underlined to the General Secretary of the Nato alliance the importance for the unhampered continuation of the military exercise "Destine Glory". Mr.Tsohatzopoulos did not rule out a visit to Brussels while he also threatened with the withdrawal of the Greek air-force from the exercise.

Dog fights took place over the Aegean yesterday due to provocative actions by the Turkish air-force.

Greek war air-crafts flying over the island of Cyprus within the framework of the Greek- Cypriot military exercise Nikiforos Toxotis were intercepted by Turkish air-crafts.

Following a Turkish demand Nato revised the plans of the exercise which clash with the regime of demilitarization of the islands in the East Aegean.

Foreign Minister Giorge Papandreou and Defence Minister Akis Tsohatzopoulos told the competent parliamentary committee that Ancaras tactic did not imply escalation of tension. Pasok deputies criticized the governmenthandling of the situation.

Karolos Papoulias revealed that PapandreouOzal had reached an agreement on the withdrawal of the Turkish occupation troops from Cyprus in 1988 in Davos.

Prime- minister Simitis will meet with the Ecumenic Patriarch Vartholomeos today. On Tuesday Mr. Vartholomeos will attend a dinner in his honour hosted by Prime-minister Simitis. The archibishop of Athens Hristodoulos was also invited to attend the dinner.

The President of the ND party Kostas Karamanlis appears very much concerned over the dispute between the ND party honorary President Konstantinos Mitsotakis and ND deputy Kefalogiannis. According to reports on Sunday during a speech to ND party supporters in Larissa, Mr. Karamanlis will refer to the ND party relations with society and will call for unity and abandonment of personal disputes.

Government spokesman Dimitris Reppas said that the dialogue on the electoral law will come after the conclusion of procedures for the revision of the constitution.

The official procedure for the liberation of the vocal telephone market opens today with the distribution of pamphlets with the proclamation of the action of 7 cordless telephone permits.

Third generation mobile phone permits will be given as from April 2001.

A strong bomb placed in the car of judge Giorgia Zaki exploded at about 4 o clock this morning. Three cars were destroyed while material damage was caused to other 7 cars around.
