  • [01] Creditors must take necessary decisions for Greece's economic recovery, gov't spokesman Tzanakopoulos says

No one claims that the fundamental problems of the Greek economy have been solved, government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos said on Wednesday during a press briefing adding that the situation is still fragile.

"We should however emphasize on the great opportunities that now seem to exist," he noted and added: "Too much depends on the decisions to be taken at European level, both to strengthen Greece' growth and find a solution to the Greek debt, which is the main factor of uncertainty, both for money markets and for other investors."

The government spokesman said that "it is Europe's duty, both of our creditors and of the institutions, to take the necessary decisions now that will guarantee the restoration of European normality in our country."

Decisions, "that will lead to a steady and dynamic recovery of the Greek economy, and our immediate return to the money markets," he said.

[02] ND leader Mitsotakis: Greek debt is non-sustainable

Main opposition New Democracy (ND) leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis estimated on Wednesday that Europe will be encouraged to fill its gaps and correct its imperfections after the German elections.

Mitsotakis was speaking at the "CONCORDIA" European Summit held in Athens.

The leader of the main opposition underlined that the three challenges of our times are employment, security and technological advance along with ecological threat.

Mitsotakis stressed that every EU member state has to do things proportionally and collectively in Europe and added: "Europe compared to the USA mainly on development issues has not responded to the challenges" and supported that a political framework is needed to meet Greece's development challenges.

Referring to Greece, Mitsotakis reiterated that "we are the only country currently in the programme. The country needs a strong mandate to make the necessary reforms for the country" and expressed optimism that ND would take a strong electoral mandate to implement its reform agenda. He also stressed that the problem of the current government is ideological as it does not believe in reforms.

Mitsotakis argued that "our debt has become non-sustainable" and criticized creditors who did not deliver on 2012 promises. He also underlined that the country needs to convince the partners and the IMF that it can make reforms.

Finally, the leader of the main opposition referred to the problem of terrorism and said that "cooperation between states should be more intense as you can not have freedom without security."
