  • [01] Tzanakopoulos: There is no scenario where loans to Greece are not disbursed

The non-payment of the next installment of loans to Greece is not a "scenario" that is currently on the table, government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos said on Tuesday in an interview with the private channel SKAI.

"There is absolutely no scenario on the negotiating table that does not include the disbursement of the installment. The staff-level agreement has been approved," Tzanakopoulos said.

All sides were currently working in the direction that would lead the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to issue a positive debt sustainability analysis report on Greece, he added. The spokesman also repeated that the measures voted for 2019 and 2020 will not be implemented if there is no implementation of measures for Greek debt relief.

[02] Mitsotakis: ND is only political force that can guarantee exit from crisis

New Democracy is the only political force that can guarantee Greece's exit from the crisis, party leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Tuesday, during a visit at an ND office in Thessaloniki which registers potential party officials.

"New Democracy is the only force that can guarantee the country's exit from the crisis. Mr. Tsipras and SYRIZA had the opportunity and lost it," he said and reiterated his call for elections saying that his party wouldn't promise voters things they could not do.

Speaking to the young people gathered at the office, Mitsotakis said their presence vindicates his insistence to create a register for new executives that would help him renew the party and give opportunities to young people. He said more than 1,000 people have already passed from interviews on a nationwide level and it is now being discussed in which sector they could contribute.

[03] Greek productions and events to kick off Athens & Epidaurus Festival 2017

Several Greek productions and events will help kick off the annual Athens & Epidaurus Festival held in the Greek capital this summer, with performances at the Olympia Theatre and Peiraios 260 centre.

The festival programme opened on Monday this week with the start of an photographic exhibition on the refugee crisis on loan from the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography, at the Peiraios 260 venue A, and the Bob Theatre Festival showcasing the work of fledgling theatrical groups, again at Peiraios 260.

The three-day Sound Acts platform starting on May 26 will present a number of performances exploring gender, racial, and body identity through the medium of sound, while the National Opera will put on a production of Giacomo Puccini's "Madama Butterfly" at the Herod Atticus Odeon for five nights, starting on May 31 and culminating on June 7.

The June programme opens with one of the most successful performances of last year's festival, "The Massacre at Paris" put on by The Little Things Orchestra, directed by Christos Theodoridis. The production won over audiences thanks to its tight dramaturgy and rapid pace, doing justice to a difficult yet poignant play that is considered one of the most enigmatic and misunderstood works by Christopher Marlowe. It will be performed for four nights (June 1-4) at the Peiraios 260 venue D, starting at 21:00.

The first week of June will also feature Euripidis Laskaridis and his Osmosis dance group in their new production "Titans" at Peiraios 260 venue E at 21:00 on June 6-8. After performing 'Relic' at 20 international festivals, the group's new production 'Titan' will have its world premiere in Athens before moving on to Barcelona, Turin, Amsterdam, Paris, and various other destinations.

More details on the events, times and programme are available on the festival's website http://greekfestival.gr/en/
