[01] Passenger ship operators call on seamen's union to cancel rolling
strikes
The Association of Passenger Ship Operators called on the Hellenic
Seamen's Federation (PNO) on Wednesday to suspend their two 48-hour
rolling strikes, saying they are creating serious problems in the
transport of passengers and freight to and from the islands.
The two strikes started on Tuesday morning and will end at midnight on
Friday (May 19). In a press release, the operators' association said
the strikes could hurt tourism revenues.
"We're in the tourism period and millions of our fellow citizens are
hoping to earn their livelihoods in a difficult economic situation for
the country," it said. "The inability to transport passengers and cargo
for four whole days in this crucial time for tourism and the economy
should be avoided," it added.
