[01] Prospects for successful concluding 2nd review in Athens now good,
IMF says
The prospects of successfully concluding the second review of Greece's
programme are now good but the Eurozone has to provide adequate
assurances of a reliable strategy that will ensure the sustainability
of Greece's debt, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said on Friday.
IMF spokesman Gerry Rice, in a statement, said that significant progress
has been made in recent weeks, though some policy issues that "remain
open." It was now possible to reliably say, however, that the prospects
for a successful conclusion of the negotiations on these issues during
the talks that will take place in Athens were good, he said.
In such an agreement, he added, the policies must be supplemented by
negotiations that will follow with the other Eurozone countries in order
to ensure adequate assurances regarding the sustainability of Greece's
debt, before the programme is presented to the IMF board for approval.
