  • [01] Foreign ministry condemns 'heinous' terrorist attack outside British Parliament

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the terrorist attack outside the British Parliament on Wednesday, describing it as a "cowardly act" and noting Greece's support for the people of the United Kingdom.

"We express our abhorrence at the heinous and cowardly terrorist act which occurred today in London. Greece condemns terrorism unequivocally and stands on the side of the government and the people of the United Kingdom," the ministry said.

The Greek embassy in London is monitoring developments closely in cooperation with the relevant British authorities, it added.

In a tweet posted earlier on the ministry's account, it expressed its "shock" over the attack. "Shocked by the horrific terrorist attack outside the British Parliament. We express full support to the people of #London."

[02] German Vice-Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel meeting with PM Alexis Tsipras

German Vice Chancellor and Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel arrived at the Greek government headquarters at the Maximos Mansion at 19:30 on Wednesday evening for the start of a meeting with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.

Gabriel, who was accompanied by a large convoy of cars, was met at entrance of the Maximos Mansion by his Greek counterpart Nikos Kotzias.

In an announcement concerning the visit, German foreign ministry spokesman Martin Schaefer said it was a positive message for bilateral relations, expressing "his own and German solidarity with the Greeks".

During his visit on Wednesday and Thursday, Gabriel is scheduled to have a working dinner with the prime minister on Wednesday night and then a series of meetings with President of the Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos and Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias on Thursday. The talks during the visit are expected to focus on the migration and refugee crisis.

He will also visit the gallery that is to exhibit woks of art in the 'documenta 14' art exhibition taking place in Athens and Kassel, Germany.

    [03] Mitsotakis condemns London attack

New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis condemned the attack in London on Wednesday, saying the priority is to ensure the safety of citizens.

"We condemn the attack in London. Our first priority is the safety of citizens. Our thought is with the families of the victims," Mitsotakis tweeted.
