[01] PM Tsipras chairs meeting in his office in Thessaloniki
Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is currently chairing a meeting in
his office in Thessaloniki. State Minister Christoforos Vernardakis,
government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos, Deputy Minister of Macedonia
and Thrace Maria Kollia Tsaroucha and seven mayors from the region
participate in the meeting.
Tsipras said that he is visiting Thessaloniki because he wants the
government "to share and understand the people's problems and to give
solutions to the society that is plagued by the crisis".
Earlier, Tsipras announced the expansion of the school meals programme
to the areas of western Thessaloniki that have been hit by the economic
crisis. The programme refers to 30,000 pupils in the wider region of
Thessaloniki.
At noon, Tsipras will depart for Brussels to participate in the EU Summit.
