The European United Left/Nordic Green Left (GUE / NGL) decided to propose again the head of SYRIZA, Dimitris Papadimoulis, for the position of the European Parliament Vice President.

The tenure of the vice president is 2.5 years. The election will take place on January 17 with the participation of 751 MEPs representing the 28 member states.

Papadimoulis earlier on Wednesday posted on Twitter: "77 out of the 80 prior actions of the second programme review have been met. The other 3 are doable. Thomsen is playing games. It is the time of the leaders."

[02] Shipping ministry to convene on new national island policy

The Shipping Ministry will convene on Wednesday in an effort to implement a new national policy on islands and draft a common, comprehensive proposal with other southern European countries to be presented at the EU summit during the Maltese presidency.

The meeting will take place at noon at the initiative of Shipping Minister Panagiotis Kouroumblis and Deputy Shipping Minister Nektarios Santorinios with the participation of islands' regional governors.

Kouroumblis has already announced the cooperation of the ministry with the regions of the Greek islands as well as the countries of southern Europe adding that Europe seems to realize that territorial cohesion is an obligation to ensure that people in the islands feel that they are not second-class citizens, feel that they are citizens of Greece and Europe, that they are citizens of Spain and Europe, namely have actual territorial cohesion."
