  • [01] Tsipras and Erdogan discuss Cyprus, refugees in phone call

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras spoke with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday on the Cyprus issue and the EU-Turkey deal on refugees, his office said.

The two leaders discussed in a phone call developments in Cyprus talks and the procedure followed and agreed to talk in the next few days, if necessary. On the refugee issue, Tsipras said the EU-Turkey deal is necessary, adding he supports Ankara's request "to receive from the EU what the country is entitled."

[02] 4.7-magnitude earthquake near Kilkis felt in Thessaloniki, Pella

A 4.7-magnitude tremor that shook the area northwest of Thessaloniki, near Kilkis, in the early morning was at a focal depth of 10 km and this is why it was felt in Thessaloniki, Pella and other surrounding region, a geophysics professor told Athens-Macedonian News Agency on Saturday.

The quake hit at 01:22 local time according to the Seismological Station (ANA) at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

It is a region where an earthquake sequence has been developing since November 10, but is not known to have large faults, Geophysics professor Kostas Papazahos said.
