  • [01] ND: GDP data showing increase in Q3 is no cause for celebration

The recovery registered in Greece in the third quarter of 2016 is no cause for celebration, New Democracy (ND) said in a statement on Monday, noting it is compared with a devastating quarter last year.

"The government is extolling the GDP data for the third quarter of 2016. Only this data is due to the fact that last year's third quarter was disastrous," the main opposition says.

It noted that last year the government "dried the market by wiping out the reserves of the pension funds, defaulted domestically, closed banks, imposed capital controls and signed the unnecessary, third memorandum."

"Therefore, the data showing an increase of the GDP in the third quarter this year is no cause for celebration," ND added.

[02] French embassy to hold major business forum on energy, innovation and environment on Nov. 24-25

The French embassy, the French Institute (L'Institut français de Grèce) and the French-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce & Industry are organizing the first business forum on energy, the environment and innovation which will be held on November 24-25 in Athens.

"My message is come and invest in Greece, the Greek economy is recovering," the French Ambassador Christophe Chantepy told journalists during a press conference.

The ambassador noted the presence of 100 French businesses in Greece who employ 13,000 employees and their commitment to maintain and increase jobs.

Speaking to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency, Chantepy said the business forum on energy and the environment will be held on the first day and host major French businesses in the sector which will meet with Greek businesses as well local authorities.

Participants will include companies involved in green energy, in the production and power saving, renewable energy, management of solid and liquid waste, wind and solar energy (photovoltaic), while the segment on innovation will host companies from the technology, digital and the social sector.

The second day of the forum will focus on innovation and will bring together the Greek and French ecosystems which are at the top of European innovation. Chantepy said the forum will welcome 75 heads of French networks, startups, clusters, incubator and research laboratories who will meet with Greek counterparts.

"Our ambition is not just to talk, bit to move ahead who the creation of a permanent platform, initially virtual, of Greek-French innovation, where interest in various ideas will be evaluated. After November 25, we will create the platform that will place the two ecosystems – the Greek and the French- work together dynamically," the ambassador told ANA.
