[01] Culture minister hails 'unconventional spirit' of Dario Fo
Culture Minister Aristidis Baltas paid tribute to Italian
actor-playwright, comedian, singer, theatre director and songwriter,
Dario Fo, who passed away at the age of 90 on Thursday, saying he was
an "unconventional spirit" who supported democracy during Greece's
seven-year dictatorship.
"Dario Fo was a great innovator of contemporary theater and at the same
time an unconventional spirit, as well as a vivid political and social
conscience of our time," Baltas said in his message.
"Our country owes him, along with other intellectuals, gratitude for
his political sensitivity during the seven-year dictatorship. His death
constitutes a great loss for the stage, literature, culture and public
dialog," he added.
Fo had received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1997.
