  • [01] FM Kotzias: Occupation troops must leave Cyprus immediately

"The Turkish occupation troops must leave from Cyprus" said Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias in an interview with the Sunday edition of Kathimerini newspaper, and explained "because, for practical reasons, the troops can't leave in a single day, the largest part of the Turkish army should leave immediately and the withdrawal of the rest of the troops to take place in a specific period and to have a deadline".

On the guarantees issue, Kotzias said that Greek-Cypriots and Greeks are focused on an effort to form a system of cooperation and friendship which will refer to Cyprus' cooperation with the two, former, as he said, guarantor powers but without any intervention right.

Referring to Turkey's stance on the issue he noted that "their thought is at maturing stage" because he had met with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu many times and they have discussed the matter. "We have not agreed but during the meeting with Turkish President Erdogan in New York we said to meet soon to discuss it. I have prepared a report on these issues and Cyprus' government agrees and this is the course we will follow because the Turkish-Cypriots will have immediate benefits from the unification and development of Cyprus Republic but we can't say the same for the Greek -Cypriots which are the withdrawal of the occupation troops, the return of the land and the agreements that will exist in the inner aspects".

On the context of Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Kotzias said that they discussed some parametres on the solution of the refugees' issues. "What Greece, Turkey and the European bodies must ensure is the implementation of the EU-Turkey agreement" said Kotzias.

On the Fyrom name issue Kotzias estimated that "after the general elections in Fyrom there will be initiatives for the solution of the name issue. So, after the elections deliberations should start between the Greek and Fyrom's Foreign Ministries and not leave the issue to thirds and of course with the assistance of UN mediator Matthew Nimetz.

Regarding the Confidence Building Measures with Fyrom, Kotzias said that they "helped in the reversal of Greece's image in Skopje according to which we wanted to dissolve the state. We believe that this state rightly exists and we want to survive and this is the reason I vetoed when sanctions against Fyrom were discussed in the European Union"

[02] ND leader Mitsotakis: Gov't must implement immediately the national plan on migration

The images of disaster and anarchy in Mytilene and Chios certify the government's inefficiency to deal with the migration issue, stated New Democracy (ND) leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis reminding that six months ago at a meeting under the President of Republic the political leaders agreed on a national line on the management of the migration problem.

"Everyone is aware that I did everything to support, inside and outside Greece, the country's interests but the government did not respect its commitments" said the main opposition leader.

The migrants were not separated from the refugees and the hosting centers are in complete anarchy, there is an unreasonable delay in the asylum request procedure resulting into the delay in readmissions to Turkey, said Mitsotakis adding that there is no comprehensive plan for the allocation of the refugees in the country. The European funds are not used and the state is absent. Unfortunately, all these give ground to the xenophobic and extreme trends that still remain at low levels in a society that accepted the refugees with kindness and understanding.

As long as this government has the authority, it must immediately implement the national plan for the refugees with ND's proposals. A plan that safeguards a life with dignity for the refugees, the readmission to Turkey for the undocumented migrants as well as the safety and health for the Greek citizens, concluded Mitsotakis.

[03] The Greek economy has stabilised, says Min. Stathakis

The economy has stabilised and we can say that we leave behind the recession and speak of a recovery if the positive signs continue, stated Economy Minister George Stathakis at his speech in a SYRIZA party event in Thessaloniki on Sunday.

We are at a crucial point and we can say with certainty that from the second quarter of 2016 and afterwards and if the positive indications continue, we can speak of recovery. A recovery which demands more things, this recovery needs support, he pointed out.

Referring to the non-performing loans, Stathakis noted that 30 information and support centers for borrowers will open until the end of 2016 across the country.

[04] We will not allow the manipulation of information, says ND spokesman Koumoutsakos

"It's our duty to democracy not to allow the manipulation of information", stated main opposition New Democracy spokesman Giorgos Koumoutsakos in an interview to Athens-Macedonian News Agency on Sunday.

Asked if ND's position is general elections if the Council of State rules that the law for the TV licences is unconstitutional, Koumoutsakos said that "the request for elections emerged in the very gloomy environment created by the government's choices".

On the refugees' issue, he said that prime minister Alexis Tsipras instead of ordering an in-depth investigation into former Migration Ministry secretary general Odysseas Voudouris complaints, he accepted his resignation and said that on Monday he and seven ND deputies will table

a question in parliament asking for details and explanations by the government over the 'shadows' in the management of the refugee crisis.
