[01] TV licensing auction was a model procedure, says State ministerThe tender for the auctioning of four nationwide broadcasting licenses was a model procedure on how to manage public assets, State Minister Nikos Pappas said on Friday during a meeting with President Prokopis Pavlopoulos.Pappas briefed the President on the results of the tender noting that the procedure followed was difficult for the candidates, but ensured the interests of the State. He said the new TV landscape is characterized by new faces and experience, with new and old TV stations. Commenting on the sum raised by the auction, 246 million euros, he said "We were all pleasantly surprised" and urged all political parties to contribute in building a new TV landscape and establishing a strong TV regulator who will safeguard the quality of the programs. Aon his side, Pavlopoulos said although the tender does not fall within his competence, it belongs to the President's competence to remind all sides what is the mission of radio and television. He also urged the winners of the tender to rise to the occasion as they take on the responsibility of running their TV stations. [02] Energy minister discusses alternative energy projects with DukakisEnergy and Environment Minister Panos Skourletis met on Friday with Michael Dukakis, the Democratic candidate for the US presidential elections of 1988, to discuss political and economic developments in the United States and Europe.They also talked about the new fields opening in the United States by the developments of energy projects at a local level, so as to focus accurately on the energy needs of specific regions. Skourletis briefed his guest on the relevant priorities of his ministry to that direction, especially concerning Greek islands, where the creation of hybrid units and other systems could replace the expensive and environmentally damaging oil-fuelled power plants.
