  • [01] President Pavlopoulos calls on UAE to invest in Greece

President of Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos sent an invitation to the UAE to invest in Greece during his meeting on Tuesday with UAE Foreign Minister Sheik Bin Zayed Al Nahyan at the presidential mansion.

Pavlopoulos underlined that Greece now and in the future will be a very important country for investments and called on the UAE to show confidence in Greece underlining the prospect for further cooperation in the sectors of research, technology and innovation.

Moreover, Pavlopoulos said that Greece considers the UAE a very important factor of stability in the Gulf region adding that it can contribute to the peace in the Middle East and in Syria. He also said that this is the way to fight the ISIS terror that commits crimes against humanity.

On his part, UAE Foreign Minister confirmed that the relations between the two countries are strong at strategical and political level and underlined that during his visit to Athens he will examine the possibilities for further cooperation with Greece at financial level.

Referring to terrorism, he called on for a common front adding that "in Greece we see a sincere partner."

[02] OTE-Siemens trial postponed indefinitely over untranslated charges

The trial of the suspects in the OTE-Siemens scandal on Wednesday was postponed for an indefinite period because the charge sheet had not been translated into French and German.

The Three-Member Felony Appeals Court accepted the objections of foreign defendants who underlined that the non-delivery of the charge sheet in their native language, as the international law, provides for, renders it invalid.

The case, which went to court ten years ago, concerned an agreement signed between Siemens and the Hellenic Telecommunications Organisation (OTE) for the digitalisation of the Greek company's call centres. Those facing charges in connection with the case include former Siemens and OTE executives, who stand accused of money laundering, offering and accepting bribes and acting as accomplices in the above acts.
