  • [01] Greece and institutions clinch deal on pending issues for the conclusion of program review

    The government and the institutions agreed early on Wednesday on the pending issues for the conclusion of the Greek program review which will give the green light for the disbursement of the 7.5 billion euro loan sub-tranche.

    According to ANA-MPA sources, the two sides agreed that pensioners entitled to EKAS will not be called to return it retrospectively from January 1, 2016.

    Moreover, the Greek proposals regarding the Independent Power Transmission Operator (ADMIE) and the transitional provisions regarding the new social security system were made acceptable. The amendments will be submitted to Parliament on Thursday.

    Negotiations at technical staff level on the issue of bad loans still continue.

    [02] French PM Valls to visit Greece on June 2-3

    French Prime Minister Manuel Valls will pay an official visit to Greece on June 2-3 with the view to boost the bilateral relations of the two countries.

    Valls will be accompanied by Finance Minister Michel Sapin and Deputy Minister for European Affairs Harlem Desir.

    "The visit, which takes place only a few days after the European Union decided to provide further financial assistance to Greece will be an opportunity to express France's support to Greek reforms and the consolidation of Greece's position in the eurozone," according to a statement of the French embassy in Athens.

    The French Prime Minister is expected to have an extended discussion of the migrant and refugee issue and assist Greece in its effort to handle the large refugee flows.

    Valls will meet with Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos and Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.

    [03] Amendement banning participation of politicians in offshore companies submitted to Parliament

    The government on Wednesday submitted to parliament an amendment that bans politicians from participating in offshore companies.

    The amendment was included in the draft law which ratifies the cooperation memorandum between Georgia's Foreign Ministry and Greece's Foreign Ministry on Georgia's rapprochement to the EU.

    A roll-call vote will be held in the Parliament.

    [04] We have a new Idomeni in Athens, says ND leader Mitsotakis

    New Democracy (ND) leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Wednesday paid a suprise visit to the refugees hosting facilities at the former international airport at Elliniko.

    Mitsotakis toured the facilities, talked with refugees and members of the local authorities and requested the immediate evacuation of Elliniko. "Unfortunately, the conditions here are tragic and will worsen as the summer arrives(..). We have a new Idomeni in Athens" claimed.

    Mitsotakis on Thursday will present his party's programme on the handling of the migration and refugees crisis during his visit to the northeastern Aegean island of Samos.
