  • [01] Stournaras is responsible for deposit flights, Varoufakis and Theoharakis said in a statement to ANA-MPA

Former Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis and former member of Greece's negotiation team Nikos Theoharakis, in a joint statement to ANA-MPA on Friday, sternly attacked Bank of Greece (BOG) Yannis Stournaras accusing him that "the deposit outflow started on 3 December 2014, when Stournaras made an unprecedented faux pas in the central banks' history by stating publicly that he is afraid that there will be a 'liquidity problem' in the market."

They claimed that there is not a single country in the world where this kind of statement from the central banker would not bring a 'bankrun'.

Varoufakis and Theoharakis in a long statement replied to Stournaras and particularly to his phrase 'the proud negotiation' which 'cost to the country 86 bln euros'.

"The view that our negotiation had a huge cost to the Greek people that brought the third memorandum, it can only be accepted if someone believes that it would be possible for the Greek state not to borrow again (even from foreign markets) after June 2015 which means that Greek could serve its 320 bln unstainable debt from its primary surpluses..."

On Thursday, Bank of Greece Governor Yannis Stournaras slammed the negotiations conducted by former finance minister Yanis Varoufakis and former chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers Nikos Theoharakis on Thursday, saying they resulted in an additional 86 billion-euro burden for the Greek people.

[02] Greek merchant shipping fleet up in March

Greek merchant shipping fleet grew 0.4 pct in March for the first time after several months totaling 1,848 vessels, after a 2.8 pct decline recorded in March 2015, Hellenic Statistical Authority said on Friday.

The statistics service, in a report, said that the capacity of the Greek merchant shipping fleet was unchanged in March, after a 0.4 pct decline recorded in the same period last year.
