  • [01] FM Kotzias meets Slovak President Kiska

    VIENNA (ANA-MPA/D.Dimitrakoudis) - Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias on Friday in a meeting with the President of Slovakia Andrej Kiska stressed the common interest of both countries to deepen their traditional friendly relations.

    "The friendship is always based, above all, on trust and mutual aid," stated the Slovak President. Kotzias briefed Kiska on the economic situation in Greece and the Greek government's planned reforms, which he considered as an opportunity to improve the economy.

    They also talked about the developments in the Mediterranean region, particularly as regards the migration and refugee crisis and the measures taken to improve the situation.

    Later on Friday the Foreign Minister will have talks with his Slovak counterpart Miroslav Lajčák and the Deputy Prime Minister of Slovakia government responsible for investments Peter Pellegrini.

    [02] 1,407 refugees and migrants at the port of Piraeus

    A total of 1,407 refugees and migrants were at the port of Piraeus on Friday, according to the Greek Coast Guard.

    A large number of refugees and migrants was transferred on Thursday from the port to hosting facilities at Eleonas.

    Meanwhile, "Ariadni" ferry docked at Piraeus port earlier in the day carrying 33 refugees and migrants from Mytilene.

    [03] Greens/European Free Alliance VP Keller to visit Lesvos on May 16

    The vice president of the Greens/European Free Alliance Ska Keller will visit Greece in the coming days to hold a series of contacts with government officials and discuss the refugee issue and other matters related to social, economic and environmental policies.

    Keller is expected to arrive at Lesvos on May 16. She will visit the hotspots of Moria, the camp of Kara Tepe, and the open accommodation centres. Her programme also includes meetings with refugee organizations and volunteers.

    [04] Refugees and migrants flow to Greek islands at low levels

    Refugees and migrants' flow to the northeastern Greek islands remains low. 107 arrivals were recorded on Thursday on Chios while no arrival was reported on the island of Lesvos.

    7,078 identified migrants and refugees are currently hosted at the hotspots or stay in other open facilities on the islands of Chios, Lesvos and Samos.
