  • [01] Government council on social policy to convene on Tuesday

    The government council on social policy will convene on Tuesday to discuss the imminent social security and pension reforms.

    Among the issues to be discussed are the national pension, higher social contributions, and the unification of social security funds.

    Regarding the social security contributions, the government has proposed increasing them, but the institutions seem to oppose to the idea. However, the imposition of a tax on banking transactions over 1,000 euros has been set again on the table.

    [02] Light quake jolts Crete

    A light earthquake measuring 3.6 on the Richter scale was recorded on at 04:44 on Tuesday in the sea region southern coasts of eastern Crete.

    According to the Athens National Observatory's Geodynamics Institute, the quake's epicentre was located 383 km south-east of Athens and 8 km south-west of Makris Gialos.

    [03] Coast Guard rescues 334 refugees in the last 24 hours

    Coast Guard rescued 334 refugees in 8 incidents in the sea region of eastern Aegean over the last 24 hours.

    The incidents were reported near the islands of Lesvos, Kos and Farmakonissi.

    Meanwhile, "Blue Star 1" docked at Piraeus port on Tuesday, at 07:30, carrying 1,150 refugees from Chios and Mytilene
