  • [01] Tsipras ends visit in Israel, Palestine after meeting with Patriarch Theophilos III

JERUSALEM (ANA-MPA/ S. Sideris) - Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras hailed the contribution of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem in interfaith dialogue at an especially critical time for the region, during a meeting on Thursday afternoon with Patriarch Theophilos III.

Welcoming the prime minister, the Patriarch noted that his visit is especially important as it is taking place at a time when Christians in the region are facing difficulties and are looking to Greece for protection, despite the country's hardships.

In response, the Greek premier stressed the importance of interfaith dialogue for peace and coexistence, condemned once again religious hatred and violence and called on the Patriarch to continue his efforts for dialogue and the coexistence of the three different monotheistic religions.Theophilos III also awarded the prime minister with the Order of the Holy Sepulchre and then Tsipras toured the Patriarchate and visited the site of the Holy Sepulchre.

With this meeting, Tsipras concludes his visit to Israel and Palestine and will return to Athens this evening.

[02] Greece, Croatia reject separations between economic migrants and refugees

Alternate Migration Policy Minister Yiannis Mouzalas and Croatian Interior Minister Ranko Ostojic discussed the problem which has ensued by the practice of certain countries to close their borders to refugees and migrants, during a meeting in Athens on Thursday.

The two officials decided that unilateral action by member states of the European Union that creates facts on the ground and contravenes commitments based on international law must be avoided by all means. They said the EU must also avoid arbitrary separations between economic migrants and refugees.

The two ministers also strongly opposed the possibility of erecting walls and fences in Europe, which sustain a climate of racism and xenophobia.

[03] Kemal Dervis: Confidence is the challenge for Greece to attract investors who are waiting to come

Turkish politician Kemal Dervis has a reputation as a good manager who led Turkey out of a financial crisis at the end of 1990s. Talking to the ANA-MPA's Annita Triantafyllopoulou on Thursday, Dervis seemed confident that Greece's economy can "very well" succeed in doing the same thing in one or two years.

"Many investors are waiting to come, but [they] want to have confidence," he noted.

His vision for Europe's federation is to keep the United Kingdom within the fold and to combine two "Europes" in one: The Eurozone and a European Union surrounding the core.

Regarding the Greek financial crisis, he expressed optimism, not only in financial, but also in political terms, referring to a "charismatic leadership".

"Your prime minister (Alexis Tsipras), is very popular in all of Europe," the famous economist explained in his interview, given below:

[04] Commission approves amended restructuring plans for Alpha Bank, Eurobank

BRUSSELS (ANA-MPA/ M. Aroni) - The European Commission welcomed on Thursday the news Greek lenders Alpha Bank and Eurobank were able to raise capital to meet the shortfalls identified by the ECB's stress tests solely through private investors and welcomed their amended restructuring plans.

"As a result, no state capital injections will be necessary," the Commission said in a statement.

It has also found the amended restructuring plans of the two banks are in line with EU state aid rules and that the measures already implemented as part of the lenders' existing restructuring plans, in addition to those envisaged in the amended plans, will enable Alpha Bank and Eurobank to return to viability in line with EU state aid rules.
