[01] First refugee 'hotspot' opens in Lesvos
ANA - MPA -- The first "hotspot" for refugees and migrants was
inaugurated in Lesvos on Friday as part of Greece's implementation of the
agreements with the European Union to manage migration and refugee flows.
The refugee and migrant registration center was visited by Immigration
and Home Affairs Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos, Luxembourg Foreign
Minister Jean Asselborn and Greek Alternate Minister for Migration
Yiannis Mouzalas.
In statements to the press after the visit, Avramopoulos said the
operation of the first hotspot "signifies that the identification and
registration plan of refugees is operating fully". This, he noted, is
an important beginning, "but we still have a long way to go to implement
hotspots in other areas, to start relocations and improve the repatriation
of irregular migrants".
