  • [01] ND leader: We did not vote for the memorandum but for the country's European course

    ANA/MPA---New Democracy (ND)leader Evangelos Meimarakis explained his stategy on the post election cooperations, speaking on Friday to private TV ANT1.

    "We want a government with ND as the backbone and a collective government to discuss the problems," noted Meimarakis.

    Referring to the insurance and the unemployment issues, ND leader said that he asks for the consensus of the political forces. "It is the last chance to solve the country's problems. To implement the reforms of the agreement." However, he stressed that ND does not have magic solutions.

    Commenting on Alexis Tsipras' (SYRIZA leader) negotiation with the lenders he said that his party did not vote in favour of the memorandum but the country's European course.

    Referring to SYRIZA's campaign slogan, the 'old and the young' Meimarakis underlined: "There are young with aged minds and old with young minds".

    He clarified that his aim is to unblock the major investments that have stuck so that jobs positions will open and liquidity in increased.

    Concluding, Meimarakis stated that he wants to form a national negotiation group and called on Tsipras to participate even if he is not in the next government.

    [02] 29,260 migrants and refugees left from Lesvos

    ANA/MPA---A total of 29,260 migrants and refugees have left from Lesvos island since Monday.

    According to the planning, the camp of Kara Tepe, where tents were set up by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, will be used for Syrian refugees, who will be identified at the former road safety park and will stay in the camp.

    Former Alternate Shipping Minister Christos Zois arrived to Lesvos on Friday.

    Caretaker Prime Minister Vassiliki Thanou will visit Lesvos on Sunday, September 13. "The presence of the Prime Minister marks the culmination of her concern all that period. Her help was significant and I do not know how we would be without her," the mayor of Lesvos Spyros Galenos said to ANA-MPA.

    Meanwhile, Greece's scouts in cooperation with Médecins du Monde will collect and transfer drugs to the islands that receive the bulk of refugees and migrants.

    Caretaker Alternate Tourism Minister and singer Alkistis Protopsalti announced that she will donate the revenues from three of her concerts to the Northern Aegean Region to address the immediate needs of the increasing flow of migrants and refugees to the islands and in particular Lesvos.

    "The everyday images have shocked me. This is the least I could do," she noted.

    ANA/MPA---"There are always investment opportunities even in difficult times," the president of the Athens Stock Exchange (ASE) Socrates Lazaridis said in statements to Bloomberg within the framework of the investment roadshow held in London.

    The President of ASE noted that there are no concerns about the risk of Greece's exit from the euro, stressing that international investors are not worried about such a possibility.

    Lazaridis noted that the most important problem the Greek stock market is facing is the limitations that exist for Greek investors due to capital controls, adding, however, that the problem will be resolved soon.

    Finally, the President of ASE reported that there were over 650 meetings of listed companies with 150 foreign fund managers.
