  • [01] Policing is not the answer, says Reinhard Buetikofer to ANA-MPA

A new deal is not only necessary for Greece but for whole Europe, co-chair of the European Green Party and MEP for the German Greens Reinhard Buetikofer said in an exclusive interview to Angela Milona for ANA-MPA, adding that snap elections in Greece is a logical consequence that will not impede the reform programme.

"Policing in not the answer," he stressed regarding EU's migration policy and added that "we need a new European approach based on the principle of solidarity."

On Greece's new agreement with its EU partners, Buetikofer said he considers the reduced primary surplus targets highly ambitious, adding that his party has fought hard against the Grexit supporters in the German government.

Finally, he said that his group strongly supports that the European parliament should democratically control the work of the institutions and welcomed Alexis Tsipras' proposal on a parliamentary oversight of the implementation of the third memorandum by the European Parliament.

[02] Popular Unity will be the surprise of the elections, says party leader Lafazanis

ANA/MPA---Popular Unity will be the surprise of the elections, estimated party leader Panagiotis Lafazanis speaking on Wednesday to Mega channel ruling out cooperation with memorandum-friendly powers.

"It's not me that will go to the national currency, we will go whatsoever because it is a matter of the country's survival," estimated Lafazanis adding that the new memorandum can't be implemented.

He called 'terrorism' all those heard of a catastrophe if we left from the eurozone. "Don't you know that there are countries that are not in the eurozone?" he asked adding that 90 pct of the planet has a national currency.

Referring to his work at the Productive Reconstruction Ministry, he clarified that he did not become minister to have authority and underlined that he is not interested in offices but in people and the country.

Lafazanis said that it is obvious that Alexis Tsipras was pressed at the 17-hour negotiation in July noting that this is part of the game. We were united under the anti-memorandum umbrella but instead of cancelling the memoranda we brought a third one. I said that clash should be our choice and asked to take another way instead of the memorandum. We did not overthrow the government. The government resigned. Institutionally it should ask vote of confidence. "No cooperation with memorandum powers, we are at war," he said.

Finally, referring to the debt, he said that it is a shame for the country not to ask for the cancellation of the debt. The dilemma is the debt or the Greek people's survival. What they do is to transfer the debt to the next generations. We did many mistakes, but we must not commit crimes," he said.
