  • [01] The referendum is a stance of dignity and firmness that defends the people's mandate, Labour Minister tells ANA-MPA

ANA/MPA---"Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras' proposal and the government's decision to ask from the Greek people to state their opinion is totally consistent with the Greek government's stance in the last months," said Labour Minister Panos Skourletis to ANA-MPA on Saturday.

"It is a stance of dignity and firmness that defends the people's mandate in the last general elections. I consider this move the culmination of the tactic which defends in the best way the interests of the Greek people by denying to sign the agreement that our lenders want."

Asked on the opposition parties' reaction, Skourletis noted "It would be nice if the domestic memorandum forces did not coordinate with those extreme voices from abroad that seek the country's subordination. Today, the question is whether we are willing to sign new harsher memorandums and conditions of continuous subordination of our people to the lenders' demands. To this question the Greek people is called to reply and to this question the opposition parties are called to express themselves. I find totally misleading the effort on the part of the domestic political forces to highlight other kind of queries regarding the relations of our country with the euro and the EU. Everyone should speak and say if the want us to accept this despicable agreement proposed by our lenders or not."

[02] ND leader Samaras: Tsipras brought the country at a complete impasse

New Democracy (ND) leader Antonis Samaras sternly attacked Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras over his decision to call a referendum. In a statement early Saturday, ND leader noted that "Mr. Tsipras brought the country at a complete impasse, between an unacceptable agreement and the exit from Europe".

According to Samaras the "unacceptable agreement of the institutions has slight differences with the one he (Tsipras) proposed a few days ago".

Samaras called Tsipras "fatal, weak and irresponsible and accused him that he isolated the country from Europe and is dividing the Greek people

"The European identity is Greece's conquest and New Democracy obviously supports the front of democracy and Europe. It supports Greece's European prospect because whatever other positions would be disastrous for our country" noted Samaras

[03] No problems with ATM supply, Hellenic Bank Association president tells ANA-MPA

ANA/MPA---"I can reassure you that the ATM supply is carried out smoothly by the Bank of Greece and any problems as a result of large deposit outflows are restored as soon as possible," the president of Hellenic Bank Association Louka Katseli told ANA-MPA.
